Neil O’Toole - Primary Years Programme Coordinator

PYP Coordinator Responsibilities (adapted from IBO PYP Coordinators handbook 2004-2005)

Documentation

  • Ensure that copies of IBO pulbications pertaining to the PYP section of the school are available to all staff members
  • Establish and maintain a record of completed planners
  • Publish the school's programme of inquiry
  • Lead the process of developing and reviewing the school's scope and sequence documents
  • Ensure that essential agreements are formulated for assessment and for teaching and learning language
  • Participate in the formation of the school's statregic development plan

Professional Development

  • Ensure that staff members are made aware of professional development opportunities
  • Make recommendations regarding professional development opportunities on and off campus
  • Keep a record of workshop attendance and school visits in order to ensure equality of opportunity and identify ongoing needs
  • Assist teams or individuals in developing units of inquiry
  • Support the teachers responsible for, and the students involved in, the PYP Exhibition in grade 5

Resource Mangement

  • Make recommendations for the purchase of suitable recources to support the implementation of the programme
  • Establish an inventory of resources to facilitate efficient management

Communication

  • Set up systems for communication and collaboration among all staff members involved in implementing the programme
  • Conduct parent infomration sessions
  • Publish articles pertaining to the programme in the school newsletter
  • Circulate all relevant information received from IBO
  • Prepare and submit documentation required for authorization and evaluation
  • Ensure that all requirements of the IBO concerning the implementation of the programme are adhered to
  • Respond to requests for information from the IBO
  • Provide a liaison between the school and IBO
  • Provide outreach to the wider PYP community through OCC discussions forums, email and school visits
  • Promote the use of OCC within the school community

Andrew Mitchell - Middle Years Coordinator

MYP Coordinator Responsibilities

The MYP Coordinator is to ensure that:

  • The M.Y.P. philosophy and working practices are understood and communicated to the I.S.H. community, parents and students. This will involve practical organisation of the annual training course for existing and incoming staff. The M.Y.P. Co-ordinator will book venues i.e. the library media centre, plan the programme with assistance from the Upper School Principal, take responsibility for domestics on training courses. The M.Y.P. Co-ordinator will book venues and arrange domestics for the Grade 5 transition evening and the M.Y.P. parents meeting each year during quarters one and four. The M.Y.P. Co-ordinator will lead regular assemblies to monitor and manage M.Y.P. issues for teachers and pupils.
  • Teaching staff have materials and guidance to deliver M.Y.P. within their subject areas. This will involve responsibility for ordering materials and any necessary photocopying. The M.Y.P. Co-ordinator will check unit planners and curriculum materials. Teaching staff will understand that they are accountable to the M.Y.P. Co-ordinator for the promotion of an M.Y.P. philosophy in their classrooms. This includes display, textual materials and assessment methods.
  • Subject responsibility post holders are working towards the implementation of M.Y.P. through curriculum and assessment within their areas. This will involve a monthly meeting with P.O.R.P.H.s to ensure quality and consistency of documentation. The M.Y.P. Co-ordinator will work closely with the Upper School Principal to ensure policy into practice.
  • Communication with the I.B.O. is effective, comprehensive and regular and that required materials are disseminated promptly and efficiently. Deadlines will be communicated to staff Personal Project will be completed and staff and pupils will understand requirements.
  • The Personal Project is Coordinated effectively assigning students and teachers their roles to implement the P.P. on an annual basis.
  • A purposeful, well ordered environment within the Middle School in accordance with the school aims.
  • Working with the P.P.S. team to secure student progress in terms of their academic work and behaviour.
  • Working with the Principal and I.B. D. Coordinator to resolve potential conflict between members of the M.S. community, i.e. students, staff and parents.
  • Grade Level teams meet regularly during Upper School meeting time to sample work in the interests of consistency and maintenance of standards. The M.Y.P. Co-ordinator will make the Upper School Principal aware of issues to be addressed in order that meeting time can be planned.
  • Meetings are effectively chaired and that time is managed economically and efficiently.
  • Action points are translated into measurable outcomes which can be monitored by the Upper School Principal.
  • Classroom materials, language and display reflect, Communication, Intercultural Awareness and Holistic Learning. The M.Y.P. Co-ordinator will be responsible for monitoring and evaluation of these areas.

 

Brian Ellum - International Baccalaureate Diploma Coordinator/Dean of Students

IBD Coordinator Responsibilities

The IBD Coordinator is responsible for the administration of the IBD program. Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting student option choices
  • Informing students and teachers of curriculum or assessment changes
  • Coordinates the self taught students
  • Advises students on correct selection of classes
  • Enters students for external exams
  • Organises timetable for both mock and IB exams
  • Contats IB regional offices regarding concerns and questions
  • Manages IB meetings held every month
  • Meets on a bi-weekly basis with Upper School Principal, IGCSE Coordinator, and Middle School Coordinator
