Headmasters Responsibilites

Description

The Headmaster is the chief executive officer, invested by the Board of Governors with the responsibility and authority for the overall management of the school within the policies and directives established by the Board of Governors. The Headmaster is responsible to the Board of Governors and reports to the Chairperson of the Board of Governors.

Basic Functions

• To serve as chief executive and be full accountable for the administration of the school
• To supervise the preparations of the annual budget and operate within it once approved
• To perform special functions as designated by the Board of Governors
• To direct the school's publicity, public relations, fund-raising, communications with the school's various constituencies, relationships with professional organizations and other schools
• To recruit, manage and evaluate faculty and staff

Duties and Responsibilities 

• To assess on a regular basis the school's various programmes and procedures
• To assess the school's future needs and formulate appropriate plans to meet them
• To attend all meetings of the Board of Governors in an ex-officio capacity, although it is understood that this is with the exclusion of discussions regarding the Headmaster's salary and conduct
• To designate a Principal to supervise the school in his/her absence
• To provide professional leadership for faculty and staff
• To prepare all necessary reports and proposals relevant to the proper functioning of the school
• To secure necessary learning material for the school
• To admit and place students within the policies and guidelines set by the Board of Governors
• To hire and place faculty within the policies and guidelines set by the Board of Governors.
• To inform the Board of Governors of the renewal of existing contracts and new hiring
• To present the makeup of the management team and prepare and present an assessment and gap analysis (strengths and weaknesses) on an annual basis.
