Employment

To be considered for teaching positions at the International School of Helsinki all applicants must meet the following qualifications:

  1. Minimally a Bachelor's Degree in Education (Master's Degree preferred)
  2. Teacher Certification/Licensure
  3. Minimally two full years of teaching experience post degree and certification (PYP, MYP and DP experience preferred)

The school is seeking to employ talented and passionate educators for the next academic year, starting in August 2015:

Pre-K Classroom Teacher (age 3) and Kindergarten 2 Classroom teacher (age 5)
with minimum two years of full-time teaching experience. Degree in education, current teaching licensure, mastery of spoken and written English. Pedagogical knowledge and skillful practitioner with a growth mindset. Strong collaboration, communication and interpersonal skills.

Grade One Classroom Teacher

ISH seeks a gifted educator who is passionate about teaching Grade One (age 6) students using the Primary Years Programme curriculum. We seek an educator with a demonstrated background in developing curriculum and delivering high quality, age appropriate learning engagements using current best practices. Our approach and philosophy centers around collaboration, thoughtful innovation, team building and leveraging diverse and multiple perspectives in our community. Our vision is to Empower and inspire our student to take thoughtful action.

Classroom Responsibilities

  • Teach language arts and spelling, writing and handwriting, math, physical and natural sciences, social studies, organizational skills, personal responsibility, social skills, and conflict resolution in a self-contained classroom of 15-18 students
  • Create and prepare lessons in the above areas, including whole group, small group, and individual work
  • Develop units using the PYP framework in collaboration with your Grade 1 partner teacher and specialist teachers
  • Identify and respond to individual student’s social and emotional needs, including learning differences
  • Use a variety of teaching techniques and strategies to engage students in learning
  • Plan, design, and implement assessment of student progress
  • Create a warm and caring classroom community
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, specialists, administrators, and parents regarding students and classroom issues
  • Write report cards and conference with parents

 School-wide Responsibilities

  • Attend and participate actively in weekly faculty meetings; collaborate and share plans and materials with team
  • Help plan, organize, and conduct field trips, classroom visitors, and special grade-wide events
  • Develop curricula both horizontally and vertically
  • Attend and assist with assemblies and special events
  • Perform assigned duties (lunchroom, recess etc.)
  • Pursue ongoing personal professional development opportunities and continue to develop

 Qualifications: To be considered for the position, we require the following:

  • minimum of two years teaching experience
  • minimum Bachelor's Degree from a four year accredited college in Education
  • current teaching licensure or certification from home country
  • mastery of spoken and written English
  • strong communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills

 Early Years Educational Assistant

ISH seeks a warm and caring educator who is passionate about early childhood learning and who has Finnish Early Years credentials. Our Early Years EA works alongside a classroom teacher to nurture and support learning as well as social and emotional development. The ideal candidate would have a caring and firm disposition, can apply knowledge of child development to learning situations, and the interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with students, staff and parents.

Our approach and philosophy our Early Years Programme is inspired by Reggio Emilia and informed by the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate. We offer a play-based experience for our young learners that balances child led exploration and academic learning engagements. We seek someone with a strong desire to learn about these programmes and to inform their teaching practice with current best practices.

Classroom Responsibilities

  • Supports and nurtures student learning in and out of the classroom
  • Collaborates with classroom teacher in the development of learning engagements
  • Contributes to the warm and caring classroom environment
  • Prepares materials to support learning including instructional materials, educational displays and student work, as directed by the classroom teacher
  • Supervises students during recesses and lunchtime
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development opportunities
  • May assume teaching responsibility in the absence of teachers (with additional compensation)

Qualifications:

  1. Finnish Early Years credentials officially recognized by the Finland’s Ministry of Education
  2. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  1. Ability to support quality instruction, encourage appropriate behavior, and support students socially and emotionally
  2. Strong spoken and written English

Learning Support Educational Assistant

ISH seeks an educator with experience and passion for working with students who have mild to moderate learning or emotional/social challenges. This position works with students age 5-11 in one-to-one and small groups, both in and out of the classroom setting. The ideal candidate would bring previous experiences and/or interest in learning support, child development and mathematics, possess a positive and flexible attitude and an ability to meaningfully connect with students. The role also requires effectively communicating with various teachers and collaborating with our Student Support Team.

  • Communicates progress and next steps with teachers
  • Actively participates in our Student Support Team
  • Assists in supervision students outside classroom time
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings and professional development opportunities
  • May assume teaching responsibility in the absence of teachers (with additional compensation)
