WELCOME TO ISH AND OUR PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION!

Our ISH PTO is a volunteer organization within the school whose objectives are to assist with communication between the school, parents, and the outside community. Our purpose is to support the school through fund raising, social activities, and educational projects that seek to help make ISH the best educational and social environment it can be. We are an active, vital part of each school year. Our PTO Board is made up of volunteer parents and teachers. PTO Meetings are held monthly and are open to everyone. Some specific PTO activities during the school year include:

• Welcome Table on Orientation Day----meet other parents, pick up a blue Welcome Packet with helpful information about ISH and Finland
• ”New Parent Buddy”---- each new parent is assigned another ISH parent to be a point of contact and answer questions that may come up.
• Welcome Coffee at the school for new families with different staff members speaking and a chance to ask questions about the school.
• International Night---a highlight of each year with food and entertainment from around the world! An event not to be missed!
• Autumn and Spring Flea Markets---Always “Treasures” to be found.
• Annual Friendship skate.
• ISH Teacher/Staff Appreciation Luncheon and Day
• Various Fund Raisers throughout the year—for example Bingo Night and Carnival
• ISH Logo wear fleece jackets and sweatshirts—a great way to show school spirit!
• Book Fair---another highlight. This year over 800 books were sold to our eager ISH readers!
• ”Robert’s Coffees”---Headmaster Bob (Robert) Woods joined parents during the year for informal coffee times of lively discussions and good strong Finnish coffee and pulla.
• Monthly Seminars put on by our Transition Team to help families get to know ISH and Finland .
• PTO Grants given out in the Autumn and Spring. All funds that are raised are given back to the school through activities and specific money requests. We help buy “extras” that are not covered by the normal school budget.
• Homeroom Parents to assist teachers in the classroom, on field trips, and with classroom parties.

Hopefully this will give you an idea of the active role our ISH PTO plays during the school year. We encourage all parents to get involved at ISH. This is a wonderful way to make a difference in our children’s lives, meet new friends, and we can promise your years at ISH and in Finland will be enriched.
